Rising Artist: Bryson Tiller

Once I complete my Masters in Entertainment Business I want to land an A&R job with a top record label. While doing A&R work I also want to get into Executive Producing. As an A&R Coordinator and Executive producer you have to know what music is popular and who and what the audience is listing to. In this blog post I will review an up and coming popular artist and their latest projects that the R&B audience are currently listing to at this moment.

The rising artist that I choose to spotlight is Bryson Tiller. Tiller is a rising singer from Louisville, Kentucky. His top single Don’t which caused R&B fans wanting to hear more from him became a popular song on soundcloud with more than three million plays. Bryson Tiller released his debut LP TRAPSOUL on October 2. With Tiller’s vulnerable lyrics on tracks such as Been That Way, Don’t and Right My Wrongs and heavy rhyme flexing on tracks like Rambo and Ten Nine Fourteen Tiller delivers a project that touches the soul with passionate, emotional, and a touch of swaged out lyrics. He is often compared to artist such as Drake and PartyNextDoor. To me he gives me a Jeremih mixed with Drake type vibe. No matter who this up and coming artist is compared to he is on his way on becoming a successful R&B artist. Below is Tiller’s track listing from his latest project TRAPSOUL.

1. Intro (Difference)
2. Let Em' Know
3. Exchange
4. For However Long
5. Don't
6. Open Interlude
7. Ten Nine Fourteen
8. The Sequence
9. Rambo
10. 502 Come Up
11. Sorry Not Sorry
12. Been That Way
13. Overtime
14. Right My Wrongs

My favorite songs on the project happens to be Let Em’ Know, Exchange, Don’t, Rambo, Overtime, Been That Way and Right My Wrongs. I recommend that any R&B fan should listen to this project as he brings a laid back, vulnerable vibe with good vocals to the music industry. Tiller released this project with no collaborations which shows that he wanted to give the world his sound so that listeners can digest his sound and figure him out as an artist without mixing the style of other artists in the music industry. I think in the near future Tiller should team up with some other artist such as rising singer Kehlani, Jeremih, and J. Cole. I think if Tiller was to team up with either one of the artist that i mentioned then they would deliver a top hit.

As an A&R Coordinator and Executive Producer who wants to start their own Entertainment Company I feel that it is important for me to understand and know about rising artists and their projects, which is the purpose of this post. I enjoy listening and doing research on rising stars and I feel like that will help me understand and develop new talent better. If you are somebody who have to have the latest popular music on your music device, please checkout Bryson Tiller’s LP TRAPSOUL and you wont be disappointed.

Executive Producer in Fan Mode: Lil' Wayne No Ceilings 2

After I graduate with my Masters in Entertainment Business from Full Sail University I want to work with a top record label as an A&R Coordinator. For those who don’t know what A&R stands for it stands for Artist and Repertoire. It is the A&R job to scout upcoming artist and assist artist and songwriters on different projects they are considered the liaison between the artist and the record label. When I become an A&R Coordinator I want to have the mindset of an Executive Producer.
While reading an article over at KarenCivil.com I noticed that I have to put my self in fan mode and think about what type of music that a fan wants to listen to from their favorite artist. When reading about 10 Instrumentals We Hope to Hear on No Ceilings 2 (a continuous mixtape from Lil Wayne) I thought to my self this is the type of research I have to present to my artist so that we can give the fans what they want. I think as an A&R Coordinator you have to know about the most popular artist and songs so that your artist can give their fans a project that’s meet their expectations. This article shows the most popular songs that would sound good if Lil Wayne was on them. I would have to present my artist with a list of songs that I think would mix well with his voice on it. As an Executive Producer I have to stay current with what sounds are hot from the artist, producer, engineer and etc. Below is the list of songs that Lil’ Wayne should remix on his upcoming mixtape.

1.     K Camp feat. Fetty Wap- “1Hunnid”
2.      Post Malone – “White Iverson”
3.     Meek Mill feat. Drake – “R.I.C.O.”
4.      Dej Loaf feat. Big Sean – “Back Up”
5.     Future- “Trap N**gas”
6.      Ty Dolla $ign feat. Future & Rae Sremmurd- “Blasé”
7.     Yo Gotti feat. Young Thug – “Rihanna”
8.     Drake – “Energy”
9.     Big Sean feat. Drake & Kanye West – “Blessings”
10.  J. Cole – “G.O.M.D.

Being the type of artist that caters to their fans and usually gives them what they want Lil’Wayne will deliver a mixtape full of the most popular instrumental out at the moment. When I get in the position to submit a track list of popular songs that should be on your upcoming mixtape to my artist I have to be in a mind of a fan.
